General Education at the U
Exceptional Educational Experience (E3) Framework
At the U, we pledge that every student has opportunities to be part of a community, develop knowledge and skills they need, make an impact and be transformed in the process. The E3 Framework is a tool that helps us meet that pledge to you.
General Education Learning Outcomes
General Education courses are organized into five program level learning outcomes that are derived from the University’s E3 Framework. These learning outcomes facilitate development of skills and competencies that support students' success to completion and long after graduation:

- Reason & Act Ethically
- Persist in Addressing Complex Problems
- Respond Creatively
- Actualize & Contribute
Courses
There are two types of General Education requirements:
- GE Core – American Institutions (AI), Quantitative Literacy (QL), and Lower-Division Writing (WR1 and WR2).
- Breadth – Social/Behavioral Science (BF), Fine Arts (FF), Humanities (HF), Life Science (LS), and Physical Science (PS)
